Ryder Robinson, Vahn Lackey, Thomas Ealey And Trey Beard Earn National Recognition From College Baseball Foundation 

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Ryder Robinson (BYU), Vahn Lackey (Georgia Tech), Thomas Ealey (Norfolk State) and Trey Beard (Florida State) earned weekly honors from the College Baseball Foundation (CBF) for their respective performances last week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Robinson earned the Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week while Lackey was named the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Week. Ealey earned the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week. Beard was selected as the National Pitcher of the Week. 

Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week (Nation’s Most Outstanding Shortstop)

Ryder Robinson, SS, Junior, BYU, American Fork, Utah

Robinson had a prolific week at the plate and in the field in leading the Cougars to a 3-1 record last week. The junior was 8-for-16 (.500) with six runs scored, four RBIs, four walks, three home runs and one triple. He is now hitting .321 with five home runs and 11 RBIs on the season. He was flawless in the field last week handling 18 chances, including earning 12 assists and five put-outs while not committing an error. Robinson helped lead his team to a mid-week win over Utah Tech and two wins in three tries in a weekend series win over Cincinnati. 

Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Week

Vahn Lackey, C, Junior, Georgia Tech, Suwanee, Georgia

Lackey was dominant for the Jackets last week helping his squad to three wins in four outings, including a mid-week win over West Georgia and a weekend series win at No. 8 Clemson. He was 9-for-15 (.600) at the plate with seven runs scored, five RBIs, three home runs and three walks. In the win over West Georgia, Lackey played all eight defensive positions and was only a single short of hitting for the cycle in the 14-0 run-rule victory. Behind the plate, the junior did not commit an error and racked up four assists on the week.

John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week Award
Thomas Ealey, OF/LHP, Sophomore, Norfolk State, Fort Mill, South Carolina

Ealey was instrumental in helping lead Norfolk State to a weekend series win over Central Connecticut State in Northeast Conference play. The southpaw made one appearance on the mound, starting Sunday’s series finale, going two innings, while allowing only one hit and striking out three batters. For the weekend, Ealey was 6-for-14 (.429) at the plate, scoring four runs, earning two RBIs, one walk and one triple. The sophomore also posted a 4-for-9 (.444) performance as a hitter in mid-week play. 

National Pitcher of the Week

Trey Beard, LHP, Junior, Florida State, Dunedin, Florida

Beard allowed only one hit and issued one walk while striking out a career-high 14 batters in Florida State’s 2-0 win over Wake Forest on Saturday. He threw 90 pitches over 6.2 innings and picked up the win in helping lead the Seminoles to a weekend sweep of the Demon Deacons. The southpaw did not allow a run for the second time in four outings this season and lowered his season ERA to 1.89. His 14 strikeouts bettered his previous career best by two strikeouts and matched his total number of punch-outs on the season in his 7.1 innings prior to the outing.

Brooks Wallace Award

The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually to honor the nation's most outstanding shortstop. It is a tribute to Brooks Wallace, a slick-fielding shortstop at Texas Tech from 1977-80 who passed away at age 27 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Prior to 2009, the award recognized the national player of the year.

Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award

Established in 2000, by the Wichita Sports Commission, the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award is presented annually to honor the nation's most outstanding catcher. Posey began his collegiate career as a shortstop, before moving to catcher where he won the 2008 Johnny Bench Award, Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award. In his MLB career with the San Francisco Giants, Posey earned three world series titles, seven All-Star Game selections, five Silver Slugger Awards, the 2010 National League Rookie of the Year, 2012 National League MVP and was a 2016 Gold Glove Award winner.  

John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award

The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award is presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation to honor the nation's top combo pitcher-position player. Olerud, who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007, was a standout pitcher and first baseman at Washington State University from 1987 through 1989.

National Pitcher of the Year Award

The Pitcher of the Year award, college baseball's version of the Cy Young Award which was created in 2009, is given annually to the nation's top collegiate pitcher.
