Rocco Caballero, Bear Madliak, Jayce Dobie and Max Vaisvila Earn National Recognition From College Baseball Foundation
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Rocco Caballero (San Jose State), Bear Madliak (Kansas State), Jayce Dobie (Nevada) and Max Vaisvila (Northern Illinois) earned weekly honors from the College Baseball Foundation (CBF) for their respective performances last week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Caballero earned the Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week while Madliak was named the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Week. Dobie earned the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week. Vaisvila was selected as the National Pitcher of the Week.
Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week (Nation’s Most Outstanding Shortstop)
Rocco Caballero, SS, Senior, San Jose State, South Gate, California
Caballero powered San Jose State to two run‑rule wins, hitting .467 (7-for-15) with two doubles, five runs scored, three RBI, and four walks. He played error‑free defense and helped turn four double plays. The Spartans scored 18 runs across the two run‑rule victories—their highest single‑game output since 2023.
Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Week
Bear Madliak, C, Senior, Kansas State, Carrollton, Georgia
Madliak hit .533 (8-for-15) for the week with three doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, and seven runs scored, extending his hitting streak to six games. He delivered three extra-base hits—two homers and a double—and tied his season high with four RBI in an 8-5 win over Utah. It marked his third career multi-homer game and second this season. He homered three times in the Utah series, averaging 426 feet per blast.
John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week Award
Jayce Dobie, UTL/RHP, Senior, Nevada, Santa Clara, California
Dobie led Nevada to a 3-1 week and a series win over Washington State. He hit .313 (5-for-16) with a double, a home run, four walks, six RBI, and five runs scored, and added two strikeouts in 2.1 innings in his lone pitching appearance. He delivered a two‑run single as part of a three‑RBI game vs. San Francisco, and his ninth‑inning homer in Game 2 against Washington State proved the difference in a 5-4 win.
National Pitcher of the Week
Max Vaisvila, LHP, Senior, Northern Illinois, Villa Park, Illinois
Northern Illinois senior Max Vaisvila threw the program’s first one-hit complete-game shutout in over a decade in a 5-0 win over Bowling Green. He struck out a career‑high 14 batters—the second‑most in NIU history—and became the first Huskie since 2014 to record back‑to‑back complete games. Vaisvila, who has not allowed a run in his last 17 innings, held Bowling Green to just four baserunners, and carried a no-hitter into the seventh.

Brooks Wallace Award
The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually to honor the nation's most outstanding shortstop. It is a tribute to Brooks Wallace, a slick-fielding shortstop at Texas Tech from 1977-80 who passed away at age 27 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Prior to 2009, the award recognized the national player of the year.
Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award
Established in 2000, by the Wichita Sports Commission, the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award is presented annually to honor the nation's most outstanding catcher. Posey began his collegiate career as a shortstop, before moving to catcher where he won the 2008 Johnny Bench Award, Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award. In his MLB career with the San Francisco Giants, Posey earned three world series titles, seven All-Star Game selections, five Silver Slugger Awards, the 2010 National League Rookie of the Year, 2012 National League MVP and was a 2016 Gold Glove Award winner.
John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award
The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award is presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation to honor the nation's top combo pitcher-position player. Olerud, who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007, was a standout pitcher and first baseman at Washington State University from 1987 through 1989. The Olerud Award partners with 64 Analytics to assist with the identification of players for the weekly award as well as watch lists.
National Pitcher of the Year Award
The Pitcher of the Year award, college baseball's version of the Cy Young Award which was created in 2009, is given annually to the nation's top collegiate pitcher.
