Julio Solier, Jimmy Nugent, Jett Music and Hayden Smith Earn National Recognition From College Baseball Foundation 

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Julio Solier (Boston College), Jimmy Nugent (Louisville), Jett Music (Campbell) and Hayden Smith (Troy) earned weekly honors from the College Baseball Foundation (CBF) for their respective performances last week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Solier earned the Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week while Nugent was named the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Week. Music earned the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week. Smith was selected as the National Pitcher of the Week.

Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week(Nation’s Most Outstanding Shortstop)

Julio Solier, SS, Sophomore, Boston College, Guayama, Puerto Rico

For the week, Julio Solier batted .571 (8-for-14) with a double, his first career home run--a three-run shot--four RBI, and two runs scored in helping lead Boston College to a series win over Notre Dame. He also extended his hitting streak to five games and played error-free defense.

Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Week

Jimmy Nugent, C, Junior, Louisville, Cincinnati, Ohio

Jimmy Nugent led Louisville to a 4-0 week, highlighted by a series sweep of Clemson, batting .563 (9-for-16) with two doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, and four runs scored. His week was punctuated by a two-run walk-off home run in the 10th inning to clinch the sweep. Nugent also extended his hitting streak to seven games and was flawless defensively, recording 34 putouts, five assists, and throwing out one baserunner.

John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week Award

Jett Music, OF/RHP, Sophomore, Campbell, Clayton, North Carolina

Jett Music batted .545 (6-11) with four home runs, seven runs scored, and seven RBI in Campbell's 4-0 week capped by a CAA sweep at Charleston. The CAA Player of the Week hit .667 (6-9) and went deep in each game at Charleston, going 2-for-2 with a HR and 3 RBI in game one and 3-for-3 with a pair of solo shots in game two before homering with 2 RBI in the series finale. Music walked four times to finish with a .786 on base percentage while slugging 2.000. He also earned his fourth save of the season.

National Pitcher of the Week

Hayden Smith, LHP, Junior, Troy, Nicholasville, Kentucky

After five scoreless relief innings against Jacksonville State, Hayden Smith earned his first career start and delivered six more shutout innings as Troy secured its first shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory for the series win over Marshall. Smith totaled 11.0 scoreless innings on the week, allowing just three hits with six strikeouts on 122 efficient pitches.

Brooks Wallace Award

The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually to honor the nation's most outstanding shortstop. It is a tribute to Brooks Wallace, a slick-fielding shortstop at Texas Tech from 1977-80 who passed away at age 27 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Prior to 2009, the award recognized the national player of the year.

Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award

Established in 2000, by the Wichita Sports Commission, the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award is presented annually to honor the nation's most outstanding catcher. Posey began his collegiate career as a shortstop, before moving to catcher where he won the 2008 Johnny Bench Award, Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award. In his MLB career with the San Francisco Giants, Posey earned three world series titles, seven All-Star Game selections, five Silver Slugger Awards, the 2010 National League Rookie of the Year, 2012 National League MVP and was a 2016 Gold Glove Award winner.  

‍‍John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award

The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award is presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation to honor the nation's top combo pitcher-position player. Olerud, who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007, was a standout pitcher and first baseman at Washington State University from 1987 through 1989. The Olerud Award partners with 64 Analytics to assist with the identification of players for the weekly award as well as watch lists.

National Pitcher of the Year Award

The Pitcher of the Year award, college baseball's version of the Cy Young Award which was created in 2009, is given annually to the nation's top collegiate pitcher.
