Titan Kamaka, Jimmy Janicki, Curry Sutherland and Chris Olivier Earn National Recognition From College Baseball Foundation 

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Titan Kamaka (Mercer), Jimmy Janicki (Troy), Curry Sutherland (Missouri State) and Chris Olivier (Lamar) earned weekly honors from the College Baseball Foundation (CBF) for their respective performances last week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Kamaka earned the Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week while Janicki was named the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Week. Sutherland earned the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week. Olivier was selected as the National Pitcher of the Week. 

Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week(Nation’s Most Outstanding Shortstop)

Titan Kamaka, SS, Senior, Mercer, Orlando, Florida

Titan Kamaka led Mercer to a series sweep over Towson by batting .643 (9-for-14) with a double, a home run, three runs scored, three RBI, and five walks. He hit the go-ahead homer in the eighth inning of the finale. For the week, Kamaka recorded eight putouts and seven assists while turning a double play and extended his streak to five games with multiple hits in each.

Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Week

Jimmy Janicki, C, Sophomore, Troy, Downers Grove, Illinois

Jimmy Janicki hit .450 (9-for-20) on the week with two home runs, four doubles, 13 RBI, and six runs scored. His first career grand slam was a 407-foot walk-off in the series finale against Louisiana, giving Troy its fifth straight series win over the Ragin’ Cajuns and its first walk-off homer since 2023. He extended his hitting streak to six games, doubled in each of the last five, and threw out three of six base stealers while committing no errors.

John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week Award

Curry Sutherland, 3B/RHP, Junior, Missouri State, Rogersville, Missouri

Curry Sutherland hit .357 (5-for-14) in the Western Kentucky series, starting all three games at third base. He tallied two home runs, five RBI, a double, four runs scored, and an .857 slugging percentage. He notched his first career multi-homer game in game three of the series. On the mound, he threw three shutout relief innings in Saturday’s win, allowing one hit and striking out three to improve to 2-0. He also played error-free defense in all three games.

National Pitcher of the Week

Chris Olivier, RHP, Senior, Lamar, Mandeville, Louisiana

Chris Olivier became the first Lamar University pitcher since 2021 to record a complete-game shutout, tossing a two-hitter to lead the Cardinal to a 5-0 victory over Northwestern State in the series opener. He struck out 11 while issuing one walk in facing one batter over the minimum. It was the first complete game by a Lamar pitcher since 2023. Olivier lowered his ERA to 1.76 and has 80 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched.

Brooks Wallace Award

The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually to honor the nation's most outstanding shortstop. It is a tribute to Brooks Wallace, a slick-fielding shortstop at Texas Tech from 1977-80 who passed away at age 27 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Prior to 2009, the award recognized the national player of the year.

Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award

Established in 2000, by the Wichita Sports Commission, the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award is presented annually to honor the nation's most outstanding catcher. Posey began his collegiate career as a shortstop, before moving to catcher where he won the 2008 Johnny Bench Award, Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award. In his MLB career with the San Francisco Giants, Posey earned three world series titles, seven All-Star Game selections, five Silver Slugger Awards, the 2010 National League Rookie of the Year, 2012 National League MVP and was a 2016 Gold Glove Award winner.  

‍‍John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award

The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award is presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation to honor the nation's top combo pitcher-position player. Olerud, who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007, was a standout pitcher and first baseman at Washington State University from 1987 through 1989. The Olerud Award partners with 64 Analytics to assist with the identification of players for the weekly award as well as watch lists.

National Pitcher of the Year Award

The Pitcher of the Year award, college baseball's version of the Cy Young Award which was created in 2009, is given annually to the nation's top collegiate pitcher.
